Mapping Gentrification in the Arts District
An installation documenting the gentrification of Los Angeles via 360 video/data visualization.
Fall 2017 - Spring 2018
Mapping Gentrification in the Arts District is a multimedia project that document demographic and spatial changes in the Los Angeles Arts District through 360 video and data visualizations. For the past few decades, the Arts District has been prominent site of gentrification in Los Angeles. The goal of this project was 1) to question the narrative of "revitalization" in the Arts District by examining who has been pushed out of the neighborhood and 2) to challenge traditional modes of documentation and, instead, use data visualization and 360 video to create a more interactive exploration of the Arts District. This project was on display as an installation at Pitzer College's Kallick Gallery in December 2017 and May 2018. It also continues to live online. You can explore the data visualizations and 360 videos* below.
